"the size of federal gov has nothing to do with fair tax issue."

I disagree. Government and taxation are one and the same issue. When government spends, people pay, the only choice is how.

"What makes you think a change in tax policy will clear up the size of gov.?"

Nothing. I don't think entrenched bureaucracies would knowingly allow anything to shrink government.

"you also believe a fair tax would be passed without any special interest groups getting exceptions to the tax.. one you just mentioned was food. how about derivatives of food."

I believe no such thing. Sales taxes in almost every state have exemptions. In some states food is exempted and in some Southern blue hair meccas it is not and other taxes are lowered to compensate residents.

" do you realize companies that purchase industrial oils file federal exemption notices because the use of the product ends up or helped to produce a non taxable item.:

I don't follow each constituency for tax manipulation. There are many others.

"much work has to be done before anyone can sponsor a fair tax system without spending years in understanding the results."

I agree 110%. Only as a proposal is moved forward can we actually start to judge what might emerge from the process. People who believe what is proposed today is what might emerge from the process later need to gain some wisdom.

IMHO the bottom line remains, federal government is too large and is a huge drain on productivity.
