do I have 10 percent of the smart or experience of a poster who posts using it's real name?

The women tend to not use real names for safety reasons. Some men I have known do so because of their high profile jobs. Some just think it's fun. It certainly has nothing to do with "smart or experience" (sic). In fact, it has proven to be smarter for women to not do so, since several of us received some alarming messages in the early days.

The intelligence of a poster is far more accurately assessed based on his ability to reason and write coherently, not on whether he is smart (or stupid) enough to use his real name.

Thomas -

It's funny you should mention that real name thing. I posted to SI using my full real name for my first nine years or so, and only changed my handle to "Cogito" on a whim. I immediately decided I didn't like that, and wanted to change it back, but you can only change your handle once every twelve months. I will go back to using my real name as soon as I can.

For the record, my real name is Allen Murdock.

I'm not sure how using one's real name, or not, in a public forum is an indication of how smart or experienced one is. I believe you are older than I am, so by that one measure, you are more experienced. As for intelligence, well, I'm not going to try to convince you one way or the other. Experience has shown me that it wouldn't do any good.
