You know, if the idea of walking away from a mortgage is widely accepted as a smart move--the way getting into a mortgage at any price was thought by many to be a smart move--it could become quite chic. I am imagining "jingle mail" parties that go on for weeks, with a sophisticated bunch of couples abandoning one house after another until they all end up in one five-bedroom mansion and pool their money to keep up the payments while they look for cheap rentals.
