I'll be more inclined to believe Broadcom's IPR has more than negligible value when I learn of cross-licenses, if any, with Texas Instruments, or Freescale, or Agere, or ...

On August 8, 2003, Broadcom and Intel entered into a comprehensive cross license covering their patents filed any time up to and until August 2008!

Based on the balance of payments (60M$ to Intel in two equal installments), Broadcom's portfolio was valued at only 60M$ less than Intel's portfolio.
