First, not all earmarks are 'bad'. Much goes to worthy and necessary state projects that would qualify for funding through other programs. Earmarks are quicker and easier ways to channel this money.

If half of earmarks are acually foolish pork, the entire annual dollar amount of these is relatively insignificant in the annual budget.

But even if all earmarks are banned, which is fine by me, that represents a small savings....20 billion or so?

OTOH, if it makes you feel fiscally responsible as a Republican to rail about earmarks, then by all means go for it. :o)

BTW, I have no idea what your reference to W. Virginia means.
