In a few more years some really neat battery designs will be coming out. The NiMh batteries in the Prius and the other EV's on the market are a stepping stone. What we envision for the grid won't be around in it's early stages for probably 3 to 5 years. But cells with ten times today's capacity should be available at the end of that time frame. Within twenty years you will see these new ideas really start to roll out in neighborhoods. The Tesla should easily have a range in excess of 1000 miles with a full charge.

40 years ago when I started working with NiCads and lead acid cells I never thought we would be working with this array of new battery chemistries. We have come a long ways, especially in the last 15 years. It's great to see all the interest in battery tech since there was not very much money spent on battery development for over 100 years.

VRB has an interesting battery but there are more impressive batteries coming out very shortly from the lab. This area will make knowledgeable investors very wealthy in the next 20 years. JMHO

How about over 20,000 cycles to 100% depth of discharge with no damage and a 50 year shelf life?

Thanks for the links to Si Bob's story.
