From a global perspective. Since the dollar declined by half. Doesn't this cut the cost of your figures at least by half in real US dollars, adjusted for inflation?

you are talking about the public debt, mostly it comes down to whether you include the social security surplus in the debt or not, it is a technicality- splitting hairs. It really doesn't matter, either way you slice it the debt BLEW UP in this decade, right in front of the baby boom retirement.

Heres a somewhat obsolete chart.

And when SS is in surplus INCREASES THE NATIONAL DEBT because the only thing that the SSTF can invest in is government debt. And government debt is money that the Federal government MUST spend DO YOU UNDERSTAND??!!

Uh?? What happens when the government runs a budget surplus for the year (not a problem under Bush I know, but...)? The money turns into a pumpkin at midnight?

"FURTHERMORE, the SOCIAL Security SURPLUS is INCREASING THE NATIONAL DEBT. I'm sure you didn't know that when the government collects more FICA tax revenues (SOCIAL security surplus revenue), T-bonds are placed in the SSTF account WHICH INCREASES THE NATIONAL DEBT (intragovernmental holdings. The money is then applied to the general federal budget to be spent."

Actually, most of the annual increase in intragovernmental holdings is now attributable to the interest payments from the government to the trust funds. The operating surplus from Social Security barely covers 10 percent of the increase in the national debt YTD. Bush and Congress have already run up the national debt by another 400 billion at mid-year.
