And I wonder how many African slaves married African slaves, and their descendants married actual descendants of slaves, and all the way from then to today. My guess if VERY few. Most had other races that intermingled with the descendents of African slaves. I think that if there was a study, we would find VERY, VERY few people who were actually pure descendants of African slaves. So what exactly is the point? Just as Obama is half and half, so are his children at least half and half, perhaps less depending on Michelle's descent. All we have done for the in-between years is give the Black person an excuse for bad behavior, or not earning money for their family, and any number of other things. We don't notice that with most of the Asian families who come here. Most of them pitch in, all work together; sometimes work two or three jobs to provide for their families. For instance, I just met with a young woman on Friday, who is applying for a medical scholarship for her fourth year med school. She is beautiful, very very smart, not at all "in your face", has a totally remarkable resume, and prior good grades from college....etc. I asked her what made her start down the path of wanting to be a Doctor. She said that she is first generation Philippino....she wanted her family to be proud of her, and proud of all the work they had done to help their family along the way. I proudly endorsed her for the scholarship, and would be so grateful to be one of her patients eventually! PS...Don't tell me it is a "slave mentality gene" either. I have an ancestor who was a white Irish landowner, who was captured by Cromwell, his family killed, his land taken, and who was sent as a "white slave" to the Barbados. He eventually was able to get to America and his family name today is well know. His name was William Durkee.
