What's this prevent? --- Nurses in skirts in Cádiz By h.b. Mar 26, 2008 - 3:29 PM Nurses in Cádiz in Spain have been told that they have to wear a skirt if they want to earn a full wage. Those at the San Rafael Clinic who choose to wear nurses trousers instead will lose a 30 € productivity bonus every month. Now the regional government, the Junta de Andalucía, has promised an investigation into a possible breaking of equality legislation, and the nurses and other workers at the clinic, owned by the Pascual company, are also threatening to denounce the company. The regional councillor for welfare and equality, Micaela Navarro, said it was ‘absolutely degrading’ that the nurses were being obliged to wear skirts, and said that it went against not only equality legislation but also common sense. One of the nurses affected said it was ‘a matter of personal and professional dignity’. The Pascual company claims that nurses have worn a uniform of a skirt for the past 30 years, and they are in their right to deduct the 30 € a month from those members of staff who fail to meet the uniform requirements.
