Actually,

We need a gutsy public servant who will do the right thing, damn the torpedoes, and full speed ahead, giving up a second term to truly act in the public interest. Sweaters, lower thermostats, 55 mph and hi mileage cars (until we run out of oil), victory gardens, increased self-sufficiency...no one wants to hear these things. Baby boomers are used to having whatever they want and the best, 20 somethings don't have the perspective to realize that the world is now a precarious place in a lot of ways and that the rules are changing. Iraq has also drained us in a myriad of ways. The big lies of tax monies levied on the working and middle classes (payroll taxes only to $95k, wealthy folks get to earn $$$$ without more Medicare contributions) with IOU'S put in the "lock box" and the monies dumped into general revenue...these will have big implications. Terrorists much stronger now than on 9/11 due to Bush's stupidity. Weasels, still, all of them.

It's not clear what the next few decades will bring but instability in most areas is probably in the cards.

I seriously doubt that any presidential candidate or first term incumbent would push the 55 mph national speed limit.

55 mph limit will return when gas lines come back. Maybe sooner than we think..........
