It's all being done to deflect attention away from the crisis and those who profited from it.

Exactly..

And in it's patented Alice-In-Wonderland approach to reality, the Fed, which is arguably the greatest impediment to the economy as it slept at the switch in order to facilitate even greater profits to its private owners, the administartion is seeking to give it even more clout.

Seems to me that a serious discussion of needed changes would include a proposal to nationalize our currency system, just like the Constitution established.
