We bought our principle residence in 1987 so we have a great tax base, courtesy of prop 13 here in Ca. We've done some remodeling but kept the same home.

We've made some money in other property because we bought it "right". We leveraged our home equity to buy other property that has increased greatly, even at today's prices we are in good shape on all parcels. But if this recession lasts too long we could end up in a world of hurt. My husband is in the car business which is terrible right now.

It's hard to imagine another real estate run that would parallel the last one.

I am still mostly in cash as far as the stock market is concerned. Wall St is a rocking ship right now so I am treading gently into that water!
