Why not?

The lowest oil prices America has seen in recent decades was when Saddam was fighting against the Iranians --- and both sides had no choice but too pump full-out to pay for the very expensive business of war.

Both sides were also too drained and occupied for much out-of-region mischief... and both regimes pushed to the edge of total collapse

(Now picture the same sort of conflict --- only this time pitting the Sunnis [of the Gulf states, the Saudis, and perhaps even others] against the Shiites and Persians, likely fought across the proxy of 'Iraq'....)

What great benefits could be produced out of such?
