I too was a little disappointed at the turn of events. Like you, I was quite content with the old regime. However, it has provided the diversification of additional mines, and assurance of available financing. I wonder if there's a similarity with the Wheaton River Mines story. WRM obtained a share of Alumbrera, just as New Gold will have a share of El Morro.

Looking forward to paying what it costs... (that pint you mentioned)
