Depending on how serious you really are and how much money you're willing to devote to this, Bloomberg is really essential for professional investing. Everyone else's product pales in comparison.

For most purposes I hate Quicken, but it does the job for me at tax time. I translate the cap gains report by broker into an Excel compatible file, do a little editing and attach the output to the Sched D or the 4797 with a notation to "see attached". Some of these files are quite large but they prove to the 1099's with a very acceptable level of accuracy.
