Couple of thoughts:

First, you can run Bloomberg software on your own computer, you don't need to rent Bloomberg's terminals. Still, though, it is pretty expensive, to be sure. I couldn't invest without it, though.

Second, to track gains and losses, I use a software package called Axys, the provider is Advent software. That's a pretty high ticket item, also, but it does an excellent job of tracking stuff and makes tax time pretty easy, at least as far as equity and futures trading goes.

seriousinvestor,

I also am looking for an alternative to Quicken for Mac. I loaded it on my new IMac that I got around Christmas and it is awful! In fact, I am still using my old PC which has Microsoft Money on it because I can't stand the Quicken for Mac. If you hear of another solution let me know.

Cheers,

Steve

Take a lot at Thompson, they are positioning themselves at a price under Bloomberg, but still providing professional level information.
