I agree. I'm on my way down from my peak, which was way too high. I never had to lop over the armrest, although I did appreciate a vacant middle seat when I could get it.

but when they are taking up 2 seats then they should buy 2 seats.

Before that happens, the airlines need to do some work gearing up for it. I once bought two seats not because I couldn't squeeze into one but so I could cross my legs or stretch a bit on a long flight. I considered first class but fares were cheap in coach at the time and two seats there were dramatically cheaper than one in first class.

I had a "deuce" of a time. First of all, I couldn't sit comfortably in two seats because arm rests don't go all the way up. It's no fun sitting with your spine on the bottom of an arm rest. I was able to sit in one seat and curl my legs up in the other, but not sit in two.

Then were was the problem of getting on the plane, which took some explanation and persuasion. Even to make the reservations I had to present my name two different ways. Then, on the plan, people kept trying to move to my spare seat. I was seated on the two-seat side of the aisle. People in the dreaded middle seat wanted to move to my spare. No one seems to understand when I told them I had paid for two seats. That just didn't compute. And the cabin attendant tried to switch me with a family traveling with children on lap. I had to really assert myself with her, too.

Buying two seats is not as easy is it would seem. And defending them is even harder. I never tried that again.
