I think I am getting the roller-coaster feeling I had in 1973-74 as I gradually moved 100% into a variable annuity from a fixed one. Amazing to think that back then I was getting 7.25% on the fixed as I waited for the bear market to hurtle downward, which it did. To get 7.25% at the moment from a monetary instrument you have to gamble with trash.

Right now, though, I have the roller-coaster feeling that the train is laboring upwards towards the last big crest. I think what we are in is an undeclared debt renunciation by the United States, and while it won't be like Turkey or Argentina, the consequences will not be agreeable to a lot of people (especially to the Chinese).

Yeah, I'm now down for the year but I am done playing the short side. I said earlier this year I can't play the short side and I proved it again. I'm going to wait for a good entry point to go long, which might be a couple of years. I don't think there are really any good places to put my money right now, which is tough.
