Here’s a rundown on some of them with some links. ‘Body of War’-- an Iraq war veteran, paralyzed from the chest down, becomes an antiwar activist. Unforgettable. It will be in theaters soon and out on DVD after that.bodyofwar.com ‘Man on Wire’-- A look at wire walker Philippe Petit's daring, but illegal, high-wire walk performed between New York City's World Trade Center's twin towers in 1974, what some consider, "the artistic crime of the century." The story tells how the ragtag crew of Frenchmen and Americans pulled it off. Got acrophobia? You’ll have to strap yourself down for this one. en.wikipedia.org ‘The Betrayal’-- During the Vietnam War, more bombs were dropped on Laos than were deployed during World War I and World War II combined. 23 years in the making, this film tells the story of one family’s fight to survive and make a new home in the U.S.fullframefest.org ‘The Horseman’ – An old fashioned Swedish farmer and his horses. Injury from a storm nearly drives him from the land, but with help, he endures.hastmannen.com Haunting, meditative soundtrack:hastmannen.com ‘Holding Fast’- An otherworldly look at a fog enshrouded self-help village for Tibetan refugees in Darjeeling, India. Haunting and enriching.fullframefest.org ‘Daughters of Wisdom’- High in the mountains of northern Tibet there is a monastery of Buddhist nuns, which now thrives, despite efforts by the Chinese army to make religion illegal. “Female empowerment seizes the high ground in Tibet.” (Yaks like you’ve never seen them, before.)daughtersofwisdom.com ‘Lucio’- A fast paced, entertaining tale of a European anarchist and his extraordinary efforts to fight Fascism and big banks with counterfeiting and forgeries. Unforgettable quotes, including “I am not a criminal; I use money to help people. Banks, they are thieves, they steal money from people to enrich themselves.” Citibank was not amused. If you’ve ever been aggravated with your bank, you need to seek this one out on DVD. A film Fascists definitely do not want you to see.fullframefest.org trailer:fullframefest.org ‘Trumbo’—The story of Dalton Trumbo, best known for Spartacus, Roman Holiday and Papillion, who was blacklisted and sent to prison for refusing to tell a congressional committee what political party he belonged to at any time in his life. Engaging and profane at times, it reminds us how fragile our rights are. It was interesting to see 92-year old Kirk Douglas reminiscing about ‘Spartacus.’fullframefest.org ‘Tehran has no more Pomegranates!’ – A strange, funny film with something to offend nearly everyone including Iranians, Europeans and Americans. I thought it was interesting their zany view of Iranian history ended when the Ayatollah Khomeni came to power. The film was fairly amusing, but some of the college students in the audience laughed so hard, I thought they were going to need medical attention :)fullframefest.org ‘The Sugar Curtain’ – A group of young Cubans take a nostalgia trip back to the 80s’ when Cuba was booming and visit their old schools and other haunts. Then they recall how bad things got when the U.S.S.R. went under and the oil and economic support stopped flowing to Cuba.fullframefest.org There were many more films we did not get to see. Only so many hours in the weekend. But the festival was a reminder that what we see and hear from the corporate media is only one small and distorted slice of reality. The diversity of world views presented in these documentaries was quite refreshing and often entertaining. If I come across some others that might be available either on DVD or in theaters, I’ll post updates.fullframefest.org
