>>Archer Daniels Midland is suing the five big U.S. railroads, accusing them of violating antitrust laws<<

LOL, ADM knows all about price-fixing...

Lysine price-fixing conspiracy
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lysine price-fixing conspiracy during the mid-1990s resulted in fines and three-year prison sentences for executives of a major agricultural company, Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) who colluded with other companies to fix prices of an animal feed additive lysine. The cartel had been able to raise Lysine prices 70% within their first nine months of cooperation.[1]

Not to forget that the exporting sector - a bright spot - requires transportation.

Dow Theory I think was developed on the assumption that the transport sector involved primarily domestic transportation. I have not seen Richard Russell discuss this though he seems to be looking for a reason to explain the failure of transports to go down.

ADM as a _plaintiff_ in a anti-trust suit ! Sweet irony !

Interesting point about idle freight cars, and Port of Long Beach.

Remember, most of that is IMPORT oriented.
