"watch Lonesome Dove movie first. It's the best movie ever made, in my opinion."

Ditto here.

I also really enjoyed "The Last Picture Show." It's kind of depressing, about the fading away of small towns, but is a good read.

Moose, if you ever get a chance, read "Outlaw," by Warren Kiefer. It's just about my favorite book, ranking right up there with "Lonesome Dove." It does, in turn of the century New Mexico, what you want to do with your novel about Montana. Story is about an orphan in 1880 NM and follows the kid as he grows to be an old man. Takes old values and transposes them on more modern times.

There is so much stuff still to read, I better start with just one. Lonesome Dove it will be, thanks for the recommendation.

Lonesome Dove movie

The movie was great. I think the fact that they shortened up the book was the reason it worked.
