The public reaction would be interesting to see. The draft was not popular during the Viet Nam times, and since then we have become even more a country of self-indulgence and self-centeredness. There is a lack of public service ethic. I think any attempt to reinstate the draft would be met with widespread resistance.

18 year olds today just can't get their heads around the idea that then could be compelled to serve a stint in in the military.
