I think he scored some points here by being brutally honest. The Democrats have to take that into consideration when deciding on their nominee. Cannot have a candidate running around saying that there was sniper fire when there was none.

At the time MLK Day was a lot more controversial than it is now.

I still am opposed to the MLK Jr. day in January. It is bad for our economy.

[Note, I am also opposed to the day after Thanksgiving being a holiday for adults. It's a day we got off through high school. But why are businesses giving that day off to adults? For them to shop? Travel out of town to visit family? Take a personal day. It helps build the psychology that "nothing gets done during the holidays" which most businesses would be better off ignoring while their competition has that attitude.]

January already has a national holiday that follows Christmas by only a week, and when I think ahead to our nation 600 years from now, what are we going to do with Presidents and national leaders who deserve special recognition? Add a federal holiday every 50 or 100 years? When I grew up, Lincoln's Birthday was 2/12 and Washington's Birthday was 2/22. We consolidated those; February is also Black History month; and there's no reason to me that we couldn't add Martin Luther King, Jr. to "Presidents" Day, maybe rename it, and rotate which one is named first.

Maybe next time there's a cry to add a day for someone who dramatically moved our nation forward, Congress or the people will think ahead.

McCain just sounds like he didn't think it through, or he was uninformed.
