There is some truth to what you say. The other side of the coin is that Maliki and partners werent able to bring al sadr down. And the US now is intervening in the inter-shiaa civil strife. So Maliki is the answer now, nadine. Somehow i dont have much confidence.

Doubtless the 'negotations' will be long and messy. But that is hardly a good reason to declare defeat on day one, which seems to have been the universal reaction of the MSM. If I have to hear one more outlet prattle about how Sadr has been 'strengthened' by his offer of a cease-fire, I'm going to be sick. Because Maliki didn't crush his forces inside a week does not mean that Sadr has been strengthened. If he felt strengthened there is no way he would have called for a cease-fire.
