"but we had the likes of Carl Sagan and other so-called "scientists" coming on Nightline telling us how it could never work, the laws of physics made it impossible, etc."

And here we are, almost 30 years later, and we still can't come anywhere close to stopping an all out nuclear attack. We have managed to shoot down a few targets under highly contrived conditions on a couple of occasions. But, none of the fairly simple counters that the targets could use or take were done. Based on progress to date, we are probably at least 30 years from something that is minimally operational. And if they take minimal counter measures, anything from lots of decoys to spinning the missile, we would be back to square zero.

Carl Sagan was a far brighter and educated man than you ever will be.

" When the port of LA unloads 7.5 Million containers a year, it is ignorant to ignore the possibility of a 50 lb. device getting through security."

Given that this administration has blocked every effort to beef up port security, you have a point.

But, probably not the one you wanted to make.
