<I'm still amazed when I see how fast an online trade executes and bids show up on every screen in the world.> Damn near instantaneous, even for me and you. I have a friend who runs most all of his trades by me, but he enters the trade while talking to me on the phone. Thinks I'm a quote machine or something. He says "entered", and bingo there is his bid or ask showing on my quote screen. From Etrade to the markIT to my quote screen in under 1 second. Or whatever the voice delay over a phone line is. Only thing faster? Is when your 100 shares limit order are in the way of the prevailing program. His limit order triggers 5 more exact orders at various ECN's immediately upon it hitting the screen, and he goes to the bottom of the list for fills.
