Last year, we'd periodically have this bizarre vibrating sound that sounded like it was coming from the basement utility closet. I thought maybe it was the water heater. Turned out it was a woodpecker hammering away on the metal chimney liner and the sound transferred down into the basement. Haven't had the problem this year.-
