thanks for the info ... cb, my guess is there could be serious of events in the banking system that could trigger massive layoffs & collapse. DC may not be hurt at this moment. But the area to watch is in New York - the epic-center. Will the problem be spred across the nation ... etc. Another factor to watch is the US dollar ... is it still going down against other currencies ..... i think there could be a day for a dollar crash which will wake up the whole nation .. better watch out for that ... It is just confidence issue

POWER CONSUMPTION

Because LCDs use florescent backlighting to produce images, they require substantially less power to operate than plasmas do. LCD TVs consume about half the power that plasma displays consume. The reason: Plasmas use a lot of electricity to light each and every pixel you see on a screen - even the dark ones. Though plasma manufacturers have improved voltage consumption requirements a plasma TV will consume around a third more power for the same size display.

ADVANTAGE: LCD

............................

LCD TVs have an edge in terms of power consumption. LCD TVs generally can save up to 30 percent power usage compared to Plasma TVs. LCD TVs have longer life spans in comparison to Plasma TVs. Compared to LCD TVs, Plasma TVs have altitude problems. Plasma TVs do not perform as well at higher altitudes. This problem doesn’t exist for LCD TVs.

Illegals are great for the economy, if you can keep them out of the public facilities such as blocking roads, using hospitals without paying, stealing things or being vicious, etc They are like slaves though they can't be bought and sold and can work where they like. They have no rights and not even habeas corpus being aliens [but maybe that just applies if they haven't made it inside the USA borders]. <Would it be bad for the US economy if the illegals had to go back home and employers had to pay real wages for a change? I can't answer that, maybe an economist can.>

If people could just have a dozen of them stashed in a corner of the garden or somewhere, who popped out to do all the work when required, for say a loaf of bread and litre of water a day, then the USA economy would be doing great. It's true the GDP would fall and tax revenues would too, as people just rested, but life for the Americans would be just fine.

Unfortunately, people don't work like that and pretty soon the slaves are mating with the masters and one thing and another and their descendants become citizens. I suppose they would be like the Dalits = a separate caste, although somewhat integrated and part of the scene.

With hordes of Mexicans, they'll make the place like where they came from. That's what people do when they migrate. If they get the numbers, the change is complete. Hence, Christchurch [in New Zealand] is an English city, not like a Maori pa. China Towns are like little Chinas. Auckland is turning Chinese and the country will too [there being 1.3bn of them with many wanting a more pleasant lifestyle - give it 50 years or maybe 100]. NZ's 4 million are only the 4th significant figure of China's population, so putting 100 million of them here wouldn't change China's configuration significantly.

Notice that the USA is different from when Amerindians chased buffalo. Migrants change places. They make it like home.

Personally, I don't want a dozen Mexicans living in my garden or house, blocking the roads and using, without paying, the public facilities I and my ancestors built over centuries.

While living in England, we had gardeners visit weekly to maintain the place. If felt odd to have strangers roaming around the property. While there are gardeners, tradesmen and visitors in a house, it's not "home". The visitors have to be integrated to the social scene too. A country is a home on a grander scale.

We have Chinese and Korean neighbours. They operate differently from Kiwi blokes. We all get along fine, but it's different. I have trouble pronouncing their names for a start. Plus cultures are different. The baby-boomer Kiwi blokes have water blasters, engine oil, disc grinders, air compressors, and spanners.

NZ [mostly] gets high-end immigrants. We don't have swarms of low-end people busting in, though plenty seem to make it, with the resulting social carnage. The giant moats help. Unfortunately, swarms of high-end people are migrating from NZ to Australia [and elsewhere], leaving the bludgers to run the place.

I am not an economist, but I think it would be great for the US, if illegals were sent home. The biggest effect, as you suggest, will be a general rise in wages for low wage jobs and a shortage of low skilled labor. This would result in living wages for the lower half of society, much like in Europe. It would probably result in reduced crime, a lower jail population, and a greater equality among classes, without having to raise taxes on higher incomes. However, it will probably also result in a drop in GDP. So, IMO, bottom line is lower GDP and higher quality of life.
