They have no rights and not even habeas corpus being aliens [but maybe that just applies if they haven't made it inside the USA borders]. <Would it be bad for the US economy if the illegals had to go back home and employers had to pay real wages for a change? I can't answer that, maybe an economist can. > If people could just have a dozen of them stashed in a corner of the garden or somewhere, who popped out to do all the work when required, for say a loaf of bread and litre of water a day, then the USA economy would be doing great. It's true the GDP would fall and tax revenues would too, as people just rested, but life for the Americans would be just fine. Unfortunately, people don't work like that and pretty soon the slaves are mating with the masters and one thing and another and their descendants become citizens. I suppose they would be like the Dalits = a separate caste, although somewhat integrated and part of the scene. With hordes of Mexicans, they'll make the place like where they came from. That's what people do when they migrate. If they get the numbers, the change is complete. Hence, Christchurch [in New Zealand] is an English city, not like a Maori pa. China Towns are like little Chinas. Auckland is turning Chinese and the country will too [there being 1.3bn of them with many wanting a more pleasant lifestyle - give it 50 years or maybe 100]. NZ's 4 million are only the 4th significant figure of China's population, so putting 100 million of them here wouldn't change China's configuration significantly. Notice that the USA is different from when Amerindians chased buffalo. Migrants change places. They make it like home. Personally, I don't want a dozen Mexicans living in my garden or house, blocking the roads and using, without paying, the public facilities I and my ancestors built over centuries. While living in England, we had gardeners visit weekly to maintain the place. If felt odd to have strangers roaming around the property. While there are gardeners, tradesmen and visitors in a house, it's not "home". The visitors have to be integrated to the social scene too. A country is a home on a grander scale. We have Chinese and Korean neighbours. They operate differently from Kiwi blokes. We all get along fine, but it's different. I have trouble pronouncing their names for a start. Plus cultures are different. The baby-boomer Kiwi blokes have water blasters, engine oil, disc grinders, air compressors, and spanners. NZ [mostly] gets high-end immigrants. We don't have swarms of low-end people busting in, though plenty seem to make it, with the resulting social carnage. The giant moats help. Unfortunately, swarms of high-end people are migrating from NZ to Australia [and elsewhere], leaving the bludgers to run the place. Mqurice
