The Carter years were a tough time, but that is because of the stagflation caused by the massive spending of money in Vietnam for which the country got nothing in return. The problem was on Johnson and Nixon's watch, but Carter was there when the bills came due.

His policies were very good.
The biggest disappointment was Iran. I attribute that to the fact that the Shah had systematicly killed off any competent opposition,so when he was gone there were nothing but religious nuts and inexperienced zealots left to pick up the pieces. The Oliver North crowd then moved in to sabotage the good of the nation for their own crazy schemes (like Iran/Contra).

TP

P.S. Watch for a rerun of that stagflation from Bush Jr.'s waste of national treasure.

Most of Carter's apologists are trying to justify his failed presidency by pointing out his good intentions.

I don't know about his apologists, but I cannot imagine how the man can show his face and make some of the remarks he's made about the current administration.

I mean, Bush isn't perfect, but Carter was absolutely the worst in my lifetime (well, it may be a tie between Carter and LBJ). He really just needs to shut up and stay down on the old peanut farm.
