UW, The problem will be solved by military people, but not if Obama or Hillary get in office, and to my way of thinking not with any President until we as a nation do accept the notion that there is such a threat and that it is more real and more vital than the annoyance of having to wait too long for a latte on the way to work or paying too much for a gallon of gas.

Today's losses are too fresh in our minds, and too painful. Each death and wounding bring tears to our eyes. I sincerely apologize for not acknowledging that once more, because I for one can't fathom the loss experienced by those people and their families.

Yesterday there was a clear expression of our regard for military people as evidenced by the fifteen recommendations to the following humble post, and some of the followup comments. Message 24472628

Does nobody here give a shxt about the war and soldiers' sacrifices enough to even make a comment about today's dead and wounded?

Or do you think the ongoing debate between our presidential candidates and their various personal issues will solve the war problem all by its lonesome self?

Do you accept the notion of a Muslim militant extremist threat?

I will probably get banned for this here, but I don't think ANYONE on either side, left, right, or in the middle gives a good goddamn about ANYTHING unless they have skin in the game..

They are too damn selfish and self centered to care about our dead and wounded, their dead and wounded or what happened to our credibility in the world...

We NEED a draft to wake people up..

PS: Btw, I recommended your post. :)

Absolutely, that's why everyone is concerned Obama will get elected. He wants to play kissy face with the Muslim militant threat and hope it goes away. Most people here understand that would be the end of the West.

You don't want to hear my military solutions for ending the Muslim threat. They are not realistic and very scary.

The readership on SI is down right now, uw...at least on the threads where there are sensible and thoughtful people. People are not even able to 'trust' the media to print anything like what is actually happening....

We see that headline, and don't know why anything happened, where it happened, who was killed, who was wounded, where....and any number of other things.

This link: news.google.com

Even the link that tells about the numbers of Americans killed an injured this weekend, is somewhat hearsay, because NO ONE in our Military seems to be authorized to talk about it....What in the heck is going on????? Is that true, or did the AP person make it up????

Tells all sorts of stories....but are they the truth? Are they just more opinions? Even the Generals don't seem to know what to do, nor where to do it.....

A very liberal friend called today, and said we now have over 4,000 dead in Iraq, and over 30,000 wounded....I asked her where she got the number of wounded. She didn't know. She had "heard it".....

It isn't that people here don't care. You know most of us really do care. But how and what can we do, except cry a little ourselves, and send prayers to them and their families....

Most of us are more than a little furious that our Military can't just do their job, and not have to call in to someone to see if they can take a shot or send in a smoke bomb, or whatever....Is it JAG that is making up the rules? Or is it the anti-war folks.....????

We have Peloisi and Reid telling the General who is coming to DC to report to them, to NOT paint a rosy picture. How DARE she? She who doesn't know much of anything, presuming
to tell someone who is risking his own life as well as his soldiers lives by what they are doing....

Really, unclewest....Please do what you can through your organization to get some of the people in Washington to STOP the caterwalling, and just try to play on the same team as the rest of us who want to leave Iraq without some major fears that the other troublemakers in the world will come in and take over...making all of our wounded and killed to die and be injured for naught.....

Even though things are improving in Iraq, violence there is still common. Another episode of violence doesn't necessarily give people a lot of additional things to say. Its not that they don't care about Americans getting killed and wounded, but that they've addressed the issue already (from all sorts of different perspective, but generally, at least here, from the perspective of being grateful for their sacrifice).

I don't think not making an additional post each time any incident happens indicates any ungratefulness or lack of concern.

Your post "3 US Troops Killed, 31 Wounded in Iraq" was in response to a post that said "The simple fact is we're winning this war with an all-volunteer force. It's working.".

Well maybe its working and maybe it isn't but 3 killed and 31 wounded isn't a sign of either. People die and get wounded in war. The unfortunate deaths and injuries aren't evidence for defeat.
