Truth be told freud had most of it wrong. It always blew my mind that it took the psychological world so long to realize his nonsense. It is understandable for him, given when he was living, but not for those who followed his primitive ideas clear into the late 1900's.

We will find going forward that most of our psychological functioning is the result of biology and learned behavior. Left and right hemisphers, size of corpus collasum (larger in women) and how the different areas relate to each other e.g. sociopathic behavior may be due to a form of autism which does not allow them to empathize(and which wold explain why sociopaths make mistakes normal people do not) which often lands them in jail.

Autism may be due to the fact that the different areas of the mind cannot form a whole reality which would explain savant behavior. people with injury to the left frontal lobe also often exhibit savant behavior.

Even kind and unkind behavior is probably due to things like mirror neurons and centers in the brain which give pleasure to some people who are kind and not to others who are not.

Of course there is still the self actualized person who simply realizes what is rational and fair. Like compassion for slavery and segregation.

I emphazied two things in my daughters: be kind and develop your mind.
