That's an awfully long post. My practice at writing letters to newspapers where I am limited to 200 words, plus my skill at composing epigrams, enables me to oversimplify. What's going on is a desperate and misguided effort to prevent the Great Depression from happening again. Greenspan kept insisting that one cannot know that a bubble is occurring until it has happened, and that there is therefore nothing to be done until the bubble bursts, but he and Bernanke seem perfectly confident that they know when a disastrous collapse is about to happen and they act precipitously to stop that. They are seriously damaging the dollar by doing this and are going to set off a possibly incurable inflation.
