Geopolitically, we were MUCH better off when Saddam had the Shia in Iraq under his thumb.

And frankly we would be much better off if we could figure a way to get the Sunnis in charge in the future. Instead of Iraq being best buddies with Iran they would be best buddies with the Saudis. I've always said that there are so many moving parts in Iraq that there is no way to predict how they will eventually organize themselves.
