the British Empire [including the USA component] came to the rescue and removed the Japanese. The British were losing the battles in China, with lots of POWs ended up in Japanese hand. They lost control in HK for 3 years, where my mom, grandmom (still survives) had gone through and lived in HK island. The British couldn't help themselves at all, powerless, until the atom bombs were fallen to the interest of USA, who couldn't stop the bloodshed with various attemps before. It is easy for you to say they came to rescue ..... it wasn't a rescue. People were doing their part just to stop the war completely without further loss of lives. Your grandfather was lucky enough to get out of China before Japanese occupation. The Chinese government were stupid and corrupt enough to invite war. The western power who had learnt the explosive chemical powder technology from China during Marco Polo days, only to use it as gunpowder against Chinese people. The British stole Chinese relic and sold them back to Chinese government in Sotherby's auction to make big profits. That's the reason why they were coming for .. to loot the relic and be wealthy. To say people doing their things without racism is stupid. Learn the history not just by looking it up on Wiki ... try various sources. Don't deny racism when people are doing one thing and talking the other. NZ has a good history of racist occupation too in its young history. You can say it is good to establish religious rule to collect donation for the top ruling class. But the english still had to go thru chaos, looting, and mass murdering on their part.
