Nonsense, economy boomed in the 90s and there was plenty of time to raise taxes and create surplus. The war in iraq got in the way of the last recovery but high taxes are not the answer. Folks like you think the economy will boom in 64% tax bracket which will exist under obama donut hole plan for SS according to most economists. Ever hear of bob brinker. He is no supply sider but he is railing against just this on his radio show. Until i heard him last week, i had no idea that obama and the U of Chicago economists who were running the show had divorced.

I know you don't understand but the country is broke. The only reason we are not filing for bankruptcy is because no one dares to call in the notes. Has it ever crossed your mind that there is a reason for the dollar's fall from grace? If supply side economics has value, why are we sliding back into recession after a mediocre recovery? You are watching the end of the Reagan ideology that took hold of his country in the 1980s. Why? Because its has failed by almost every metric. And I am not rebelling against my parents.....they died when I was a kid.

At least you admit that the Iraq war got in the way of this decade's balancing this decades budget. But why do you insist on borrowing money to pay for that war? That's just silly. The smart person borrows money to buy APPRECIATING assets or to invest for a profitable revenue stream. Borrowing money to pay for a depreciating asset or to sink money into a guaranteed money pit is just plain stupid.

If you want to pay for a vanity item, then most responsible financial planners will tell you to pay for it out of current income or save for it and then pay for it. They will all tell you to never borrow to spend on a vanity item, like the Iraq war.
