dear elmatador, what the empire-to-be experienced in the 1930s was a crisis.

the new experience, let us term it "system reset zero state 2012" will not be an ordinary run of 1930s crisis.

the experience will be defined as when no amount of new debt can translate into gdp growth, no height of interest rate can attract offshore capital, no system of control can still capital flight, no war mongering can actuate into bullying, and, at the horrible pit of it all, no wheel barrel of usd can mean any genuine purchasing power.

bottom line: definite substantial destruction of middle class, probable class war by other means, possible race war by usual means, sharp and sudden pull back of military capabilities relative to other sovereigns, and sudden shortage of all resources previously exchanged for with printed paper and electronic blips.

the usual end-of-empire happenings.

only the degree of burn is in question, but burn will be.

the sharp point of crisis, if we can call it that, will not last long, the biblical pain will be momentary, but its effect ought to be meaningful in a planetary sense - the overall experience may run a few dozen years - call it the dark interregnum.

and then, teotwawki dawn.

1930s was not a monetary crisis of the sort that precedes the beginning of the end of an empire, unless you are talking about britain and france.
