"However, the governor of Texas does perform most of the functions that governors in other states perform."

Not like in most states outside of the South.

True, he does have veto power. But that is about it. The Lt. Governor has much more power than the Governor.

"Bill Clements was governor, and nobody EVER referred to him as "Governor Lite"."

Of course not. No one was trying to portray his position as one with real power.

The only real power the Governor of Texas has is to grant pardons and commute death penalties. Bush pardoned a lot of crook/cronys, but didn't commute even one death penalty.

W sent retarded people to death, and even mocked a woman who said she had "found Jesus" and had her killed as well. Struttin' redneck Bush has 105 notches on his death pen. W didn't slow down when DNA started proving many people on death row were innocent - he had 'em killed anyway.
