You made the claim that doctors didn't know they should wash their hands between patients in 1908. That is demonstrably false. You try to counter with a study that notes that, despite special education and monitoring, many still don't. Note the "special education". For the reality-impaired, that means they know. I guess I will put you on the list of those who can't frame an intellectually honest argument with Tench.

In 1992, The New England Journal of Medicine reported on a handwashing study in an intensive-care unit. Despite special education and monitored observation, handwashing rates were as low as 30% and never went above 48%!

Dude, read it again.....that was for all hospital personnel, not just surgeons. Dang! We spend so much money bringing education to the third world when we should be making a bigger effort here in this country.
