In the current situation, they could get a lot tougher. But I suspect they are taking a middle course for now with the aim of helping to secure the White House too, at which point a coherent policy with majority support can be implemented.

Frustrating for now but probably more productive than a knockdown drag-out that would be used against them in the fall, at least rhetorically.
