Monetary theory and policy is not an area I follow closely, but I can give some basic comments. The Federal Reserve discontinued publishing M3 data in 2006, saying it did not add any information not found in M2, a narrower definition of money.

I know the monetarists feel that M3 is a better of the long-run impact of the money supply. I also have seen some hint of conspiracy theory orchestrated by Bernanke. I generally don't pay much attention to conspiracy theories.

I am not particularly pleased with the direction the Fed is taking however. But that is another matter. I am sure there are others who could add more on M3.
