Mary;

It is a dumb policy issue. Don't blame US management or US workers.

It's a "dumb management" issue! AND, I never said it was the worker - I said they should get health care.......To blame all of the US auto problems on health care is a simplistic misguided idea. To suggest that the US auto companies have enough money to go out and buy; Volvo, Saab, Jaguar, Land Cruiser - and I know there are more - but that they can't put money into design because health care cost too much just does not make sense. Then to make matters worse, US auto management can't even keep these new found jewels, but immediately, because of stupid management, ruin these great foreign cars and need to sell the complete line in some cases!

It wasn't health care cost that drove the domestic auto companies to design SUV after SUV while the Japanese companies put their efforts into hybrids - it was dumb management.

I still fail to understand why US business is not at the forefront of the demand for single payer, universal healthcare. It's simply a good business proposition.

The advantage they have is they could "afford" to put more quality into their cars because of our stupid health care policy that penalizes US manufacturers.

Japanese health care doesn't have any impact on the cost of cars made in the US. Socialized health care is a function of where the employees are, not the nationality of the company.
