What comes across to me Tejek about Obama's upbringing is that he was largely shielded from the prejudice one finds on the mainland. Look, he was raised in a multiracial society and think he was mostly formed by the time he got to the mainland USA. Which I think partially accounts for how unbiased he comes across. His is not the typical 'black' upbringing and probably one of hte reasons is why he can relate to whites so well.

If you listen to the A&E bio, I think you will realize he was not all that shelteredfrom racial issues. His first memorable experience of being black was when he saw an ad for lightening one's skin. It made a strong impression on him. Let me stop here......when was the last time you thought of lightening our skin? If you are white, probably never. And that's because you live under what's called white privilege....an unpleasant term that suggests superiority. As a white man or woman, your skin color is just not an issue.

Going forward, Obama began to experience discrimination in high school.....and he started to act out. Then he went to LA to NYC to Boston looking for his identity which is a hard thing to do when you are mixed race but look more like one race than another.

To believe that race did not deeply effect Obama is to believe that Bush is doing a good job. ;-)

In that way, his upbringing was radically different than Hillary's.
