I once lived on the very outer fringes of polar bear territory. Them are powerful critters that live in a hungry world, where anything warm is....interesting.

Had a polar bear neighbor for some weeks, caged in a reinforced quonset hut. It'd been born in a New Zealand zoo, brought to Nome for a Walt Disney movie.

A favorite Gary Larson cartoon shows a polar bear astride an igloo. The caption reads "I just love these things, all cold and crunchy on the outside, warm and squishy on the inside."
