Yes - Conservation is part of the solution. It is not thee solution.

Detroit made big cars when the market demanded them. As for the long term health of Detroit - the companies and thier unions entered mutual suicide pacts. Recent contracts have stepped away from the death bed. Auto workers used their power to obtain labor contracts that far exceed those available to other workers. They are now reaping their rewards.

Public employee unions are well in line for self destruction now. Their contracts will blow up over their retirement benefits.
