My kids used to participate in the summer reading programs and easily meet, if not exceed their goals. They both stopped reading for awhile, but have both picked up the habit again. I know when ours were little, we were encouraged to read to them as much as possible, so we did. We also had/have tons of books in the house.

All of us recently went through their childhood collection. They took a few for themselves, but asked us to keep the really good ones like hardbacks and award winners here. They'll come and get them when their kids are reading.

Reading to children and grandchildren is one of the greatest gifts you can give them.
