It should not exactly be a surprise to find that what one perceives as balanced and fair, or slanted and biased, whether it be from PBS, Fox, Rush, Moyers, or anywhere else, depends heavily on where one's beliefs lie on the political spectrum.

I judge it first on tone. Anything excited is bound to be biased. There are too few sources remaining after that disqualifier.

I find the notion of "balanced" fascinating. Bias is inherent to that. If what is presented is objective, there's nothing to balance. So presenting a balanced report means presenting opposing biases. This is something to strive for? To brag about? Get it right and you don't have to "balance" it.

You are so right. However cannot we not open our minds to viewing other's opinions and seeing the other side of some issues. I know that I have been persuaded to change my mind on issues because of a strong argument by someone or having an issue explained so that I better understand it.

Example is BearCat who has been arguing for energy thinking and I think he has valid points. I am also persuaded by the fact that the gasoline in this country is going out of sight and that is hurting the little guy more than those who drive the largest and most expensive cars... The rich can afford. Those less fortunate cannot.
