Hey- I thought we were trying to come up with an alternative that offered something better than leaving them in their existing situation which is unacceptable, and placing them in a group home. Maybe I was very fortunate, but the two areas in which I worked in social services, had some excellent foster homes. Really good. And the group home in Lexington, Va was run by a very loving, highly educated woman whom I knew well. We never worried about those placements other than the expected trauma of removal. Smaller communities have better resources in many ways. Our caseload was manageable. I have never worked in an inner city ghetto type setting, but I don't think that is the kind of environment where these kids are either. Again, it sounds as if you are saying that the preferable choice is leaving them as is, and I would strongly have to disagree with that one. There isn't an ideal solution, and decent foster homes and counseling ARE a reality in some areas. I didn't dream them.

I basically agree with you. Sure, I dont agree with polygamy or child bride stuff but I am only talking now of the children. IMHO it is IMPOSSIBLE for any entity to take on such a HUGE number of children at one time and expect that they can be placed in proper foster homes and nothing bad comes of it. I think these children are going to be horribly traumanized by THE SYSTEM and Texas is probably breeding a new round of criminals years down the road. At the very least a huge welfare burden is going to laid on a small community. jdn
