Much of the ability to torture, kill, or maim comes from a process that makes the victim sub-human. Humans do not typically take to killing their own, but once you make an enemy or opponent out as no different than a wild animal, pest, or beast; we have seen throughout history that humans are capable of intolerable cruelty. Of course, this does not include the 2% or so of the population that is sociopathic. However, these types often times begin the institutional or national dehumanizing process that leads to the killing of their fellow man (Hitler, Stalin, etc.).

America and Western Europe may have evolved, but plenty of places in the world have not. --- I get ya...we have evolved to groovy stuff like napalm and nukes and firebombing civilians and cool shit like that. Depleted uranium is a f'n hoot!!! I'm getting my grandson a Jr. water boarding setup for his upcoming 4th birthday. Gonna be a fun day for his friends. One party they'll never forget. Even got one Iranian neighbor kid comin' over just for s**** and grins. If my wife lets me we're gonna go retro Euro and do a Dachau theme.
