Knighty, zone perfect is not related to dr. sears. dr. sears has his own line of zone bars, but they are too expensive for my taste. the only zone perfect bar that I think i look forward to eating is the mint chocolate one. the others don't do too much for me. i don't consider it a health food bar, rather, I consider it a convenient treat that doesn't totally throw my hormonal response totally under the bus.

health bars do exist, even if you have to make them yourself, but they don't taste nearly as good as the candied up versions, which is why you might not actually be able to buy a truly balanced truly healthy food bar.

sugar isn't as bad as you think, from a hormonal perspective. For example, it takes 27 teaspoons of sugar to get the same insulin response as 1 cup of grape nuts. 5 snickers bars will put you in the same ball park as that small bowl of grape nuts, too.

it takes about 11 or 12 teaspoons of sugar to get the same insulin response as 1 cup of linguini.

insulin is a storage hormone, so when you over produce it by eating a high glycemic load diet or too many total calories, you are literally demanding that your body keep the fat it has and commanding it to remove blood glucose from your body and store it as more fat.

not to mention excess insulin has been implicated in heart disease heart disease, diabetes and dementia.

my co-woker no longer produces insulin, so she has to take insulin shots ever day - she ate a very high carb, very low protein diet (very elevated insulin), moderate fat diet. she also had breast cancer. her carbs weren't typically sweats, either, more like pastas and breads. she tried to stay "healthy," not knowing she was assaulting her hormonal system due to elevated insulin.

i weighed in at 159 lbs this morning (my lightest recent weighing, up from 157.5 lbs 2 months ago) and i benched 160 lbs 9 times with good form and good control - both up and down. i'm expecting to continue, or improve upon on, my 21 day +5 lbs progression starting from when i get 165 lbs up 8 times (maybe saturday, maybe monday). since i only workout for 45 minutes to minimize my cortisol output, i haven't been doing much cardio of late. i will find a way to work it back in, probably on my off lifting days.
