You were sane at the time, i'll vouch for ya ..i played the role of status quo guy.<g>
My friend and neighbour was born and raised in France and knows their system well. He strongly maintains Canada has the best system between the two. What he didn't like about the French system was they only picked up the first 60 percent cost of treatment and you had to buy private insurance for the ballance.A plus was any cancer treatment there, was fully funded.

I wish happy or angry woodies for all males on this thread, stars and fireworks for all females a la"""I'll have what she is having." <<g>>

Some things become private because the government delists the services from the schedule... example eye exams for adults... hearing tests etc... oddly things that are proactive and could prevent higher costs...
Do our insurance companies run your gov't or does your gov't run our insurance companies? :-)
THEY DO THE SAME THING!!!!!
Medical insurance here won't pay for routine eye exams to check if your glasses are OK. They WILL pay if the doc lies and says he was looking for or found a disease.
They won't pay for routine physicals.
They won't pay for immunizations - which obviously can prevent diseases they WILL pay to cure!

I've seen a lot of waste in the system from outside and inside.. an I know that there are a lot of things wrong with our system and if you only want to focus on the haves.. private is the way to go... That is the essence of the dilemma. I'd agree with all of that. BUT health care can eat up a country's entire GDP if it is allowed to. Gov't have the sense of responsibility of a 3 year old.
Health care has to be rationed one way or another. The difference is how it is done.

I used to be crazy but I'm much better now... ;o)
Me too. :-)
I think. Sometimes.

I like your handle, I just wish you'd quit messing up my trades! :-)

EDIT: Don't know if it has changed but France's system was rated quite a bit better than ours a few years back
Check it.
